Retirement homes offer many attractions to the elderly especially those who are active. No more property maintenance no more hassle finding and getting repairs done, A community of similar ages residents etc.
However, exit fees, often higher than 10%, service charges and other costs are a big drawback. Figures from Rightmove suggest that retirement properties listed on its site are taking twice as long to sell as the market as a whole.
